FAQS

We will aim to provide answers to the
most common questions from our guests

It is not necessary to be a professional swimmer in order to swim with Mallorca Open Swim. We take swimmers from all levels. However, it is important to be in good physical shape and be capable of swimming at least 1 km at a constant pace in a time of 40 minutes or less without stopping. A typical guest of Mallorca Open Swim practices swimming 2 or 3 times per week and at some point, has been exposed to open water swimming either as a triathlon participant or in a local swim crossing. In case you have never been exposed to open water swimming our team of coaches will work with you to make the transition from the pool to the sea.

Normally we swim between 2 and 5 km in each of our swims and we split them in two parts. After the first part of the swim we stop to rest and refuel and then we continue with the second part of the swim. If there are more advanced swimmers in the group interested in doing longer swims it would not be a problem.

We understand that some of our clients are triathletes and would like to continue training while they are in Mallorca. Most of our swims take place during the mornings so that we can enjoy calmer sea waters. Our clients can then use the afternoons to practice other sports such as cycling or running. If you practice any other sports, we can help you organize them with other local partners.

Our participants/guests are enthusiast swimmers (both pool and open water) and triathletes. Also, people who join us enjoy staying healthy and exercising regularly and like to spend their holidays doing sport activities. They are men and women who are looking for adventures and unique experiences in new destinations and most importantly interested in exploring our island from the sea.

No. The only thing is that we ask you to kindly let us know when you book your reservation so that we can advise the hotel and have appropriate food during our swims that meet your food requirement.

Absolutely! Safety is our number one concern. As in all adventure sports, there are risks associated. However, in this case they are very few and can be controlled. All of our guides and coaches have open water experience and have received instruction in lifeguarding. Our swimmers will be accompanied at all times by guides on a kayak, paddle board or a tender boat. Among the dangers associated with our sport bad weather is the most important of all. In the event of bad weather, the swim will be postponed or we would find an alternative spot on the island that is secure to conduct the swim or use the swimming pool instead. Other risks involved are the jellyfish which are not dangerous but if they sting you they can produce minor rashes or itching.

Yes. Clearly, non-swimming companions will not be taking part in the sports activities or swims we organize during the mornings but they are welcome to come with the rest of the group on the other activities that we organize or they may wish to have alternative plans on their own. In case you want to travel with a companion who will not be swimming please let us know so that we can make arrangements and also charge you for any additional activities accordingly.

We will organize the swims based on the weather forecast. Our base is in the north of the island in the Pollensa Bay. However, we have swimming locations all around the island. We will try to take you to the north part, as well as to the south and we will aim to include swims around the Tramuntana area or in east part of the island. Weather permitting our goal is to organize swims around the island so that our clients can get to know different swimming spots of Mallorca.

Mallorca Open Swim is based on the north of the island in Pollensa Bay. We will be staying at the Sporthotel Hoposa Villa Concha in Puerto Pollensa.

Sporthotel Hoposa Villa Concha is a four star hotel focused on sports with all the amenities and facilities to ensure a pleasurable stay. They have a 25-meter pool where we can do technique sessions or if we need to do any additional practice. They also have a state of the art fully equipped gym, as well as a bicycle store and shop with a large parking for bicycles. The hotel is located 200 meters from the beach, very close to the town of Puerto Pollensa which is one of the most exclusive vacation spots on the island with a great variety of restaurants, shops and places to go out.

Normally our swims will take place during the mornings which means that you would have the rest of the day to practice other activities or sports such as cycling, SUP (Stand Up Paddle), kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing or scuba diving. Besides, Mallorca has amazing hiking trails all throughout the island so we can organize hikes around the Tramuntana. We would be happy to help you arrange any other activity you would like to pursue during your stay in Mallorca.

2 swimsuits, 2 goggles (one dark and one light), a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, water shoes, summer clothing and lots of enthusiasm. Included in the price of your stay we will provide you with a small bag, a t-shirt and a swimming cap.

During the summer months, it is not necessary to use a wetsuit since the water temperature is very nice for swimming. You could use a lycra swim skin or shirt.
